Koji creates a new draft called \"Copy of\" plus the original name, carrying over the research brief and questions, the interview landing page and the study settings. Interviews, reports and integrations stay with the original, and any respondent rewards are switched off on the copy until you turn them back on. Duplicating works on every plan, as long as you can view the source study.\n\n## Why duplicate a study instead of starting over\n\nMost research isn't a one-off. You run the same churn interview every quarter, repeat an onboarding study after a redesign, or take a discussion guide that worked for one customer segment and point it at another. Rebuilding that study from scratch each time costs more than the hour it takes. Small wording changes creep in, and then you can't tell whether a shift in the results came from your customers or from your questions.\n\nDuplicating keeps the instrument stable. The questions, their order, the structured question types and the follow-up settings all come across exactly, so the second wave is directly comparable with the first. You change only what you mean to change.\n\nCommon reasons teams duplicate a study:\n\n- **A new wave.** Rerun a quarterly or post-launch study with a fresh set of participants and its own report.\n- **A new segment.** Keep the guide, change the audience: enterprise instead of SMB customers, churned users instead of active ones, a new country or language.\n- **A variation.** Test a sharper version of one question or add a structured question without disturbing a study that's already collecting responses.\n- **A starting point.** Use a well-tuned study as a house template for colleagues, so everyone begins from the same proven design.\n\nSurvey tools work the same way at a basic level. Copying a survey in tools like SurveyMonkey carries over the design and leaves the original's responses behind. Koji goes a step further for interview research: it also handles the parts that can quietly cost money or leak access, such as rewards, private studies and the live AI interviewer.\n\n## How to duplicate a study, step by step\n\n### 1. Find the study on your dashboard\n\nGo to your dashboard and find the study you want to copy. It can be a draft, a live study, or one that has finished collecting responses. You need at least view access to it. If someone has shared a study with you, you can duplicate it into your own workspace.\n\n### 2. Choose Duplicate from the card menu\n\nHover over the study card and click the three-dot menu in its corner. Choose **Duplicate**. A \"Duplicating study\" message appears while Koji builds the copy, and it usually takes a second or two.\n\n### 3. Land in the new draft\n\nWhen the copy is ready you see \"Study duplicated\", and Koji opens the new study for you. It is a draft named \"Copy of\" followed by the original name, with a brand new interview link. Nothing has been sent to anyone, and the copy doesn't affect the original in any way.\n\nThe study assistant greets you with a short note confirming what came across: the questions, landing page and settings, with interviews and results left with the original. If the original paid respondent rewards, the note also reminds you that rewards are off on the copy.\n\n### 4. Make your changes\n\nRename the study so you can tell the waves apart, for example \"Onboarding interviews, Q4\". Then change what this version needs: the audience, a question or two, the landing page text, or the interview languages. You can ask the study assistant to make changes in plain language or [edit the brief yourself](/docs/editing-the-brief-manually).\n\n![Koji draft research brief \"Why trials go quiet\" listing three interview questions with their question types](/email/shots/shot-card-brief.jpg \"A duplicated study opens as a draft, with the original brief and questions ready to edit\")\n\n### 5. Publish and preview\n\nWhen the copy looks right, publish it. Then run a free [preview](/docs/previewing-your-interview) to hear or read the interview the way a participant will, before you share the new link.\n\n## What a duplicated study keeps and what it leaves behind\n\nThe copy is a fresh study built from the original's design. Here is exactly what comes across.\n\n![Comparison of what a duplicated Koji study copies, like the brief, questions and landing page, and what stays behind, like interviews and reports](/visuals/duplicate-study-what-gets-copied/duplicate-study-what-gets-copied.png \"Check this before you share the copy, so nothing you expected is missing\")\n\n**Copied to the new study:**\n\n- **The research brief and questions.** Your research goal, key questions, [structured questions](/docs/structured-questions-guide) and their follow-up settings.\n- **The landing page.** Headline, description, button labels, badges, the details form you ask participants to fill in, the footer and any consent text.\n- **Study settings.** Things like the response limit, anonymity and estimated duration.\n- **Branding and folder, within the same workspace.** If you duplicate into the workspace the original lives in, the copy keeps its brand theme and sits in the same folder.\n- **Privacy.** A restricted study stays restricted. Individual sharing isn't copied, so a private copy is visible only to you and your workspace admins until you share it.\n\n**Left with the original:**\n\n- **Interviews and respondents.** The copy starts with zero responses.\n- **Reports, insights and quality data.** Each study builds its own report from its own interviews.\n- **Integrations.** API keys, webhooks and panel recruitment orders belong to the original. Set them up again on the copy if you need them.\n- **The live AI interviewer.** The copy gets its own interviewer, so changes you make to one study never alter interviews running on the other.\n- **The interview link.** The copy has a new link of its own. Old links keep pointing at the original.\n\n### Respondent rewards are switched off\n\nIf the original paid participants a reward, the copy keeps the reward amount but switches rewards off. That way a duplicate never pays anyone by accident while you're still editing it. To pay participants in the new wave, open the study's settings and turn rewards back on.\n\n### Moving a study to another workspace\n\nYou duplicate into the workspace you're currently working in. If that's a different workspace from the original, the copy leaves the brand theme and folder behind, since those belong to the original workspace. Apply a theme and pick a folder in the new workspace if you want them.\n\n## Plans and limits\n\nDuplicating a study is available on Free, Insights, Interviews and Enterprise plans. It doesn't use credits. You only spend credits when participants complete quality interviews on the new study.\n\nA copy counts as a new study. On paid plans there is no cap on the number of studies. On the Free plan a workspace can run one live study at a time, so if your Free workspace already has a live study, Koji shows \"You've reached your study limit\". Archive or close the live study, or upgrade, then try again.\n\n## Tips for running repeat waves\n\n- **Freeze the core questions.** Decide which questions must stay identical across waves so trends are real. Put new questions after them rather than rewording the old ones.\n- **Name waves consistently.** A pattern like \"Churn interviews, 2026 Q4\" keeps your dashboard readable and makes reports easy to find later.\n- **Change one thing at a time.** If you change both the audience and the questions, you won't know which one moved the results.\n- **Check the landing page.** Dates, product names and time estimates in the welcome text are easy to miss when you copy last quarter's study.\n- **Compare the reports side by side.** Each wave gets its own report, so lay the findings next to each other and look for themes that grew or faded.\n\nRepeating a study also helps with a quieter problem: re-researching questions you've already answered. Before you start a new study from scratch, check whether a past study already asks the right questions. Our [re-research audit](/docs/re-research-audit-duplicate-studies) explains how to spot that overlap.\n\n## Frequently Asked Questions\n\n**Does duplicating a study copy its interviews or report?**\nNo. The copy starts with no interviews, no respondents and no report. Only the study's design comes across.\n\n**Will changing the copy affect the original study?**\nNo. The two studies are independent. Each has its own link, its own AI interviewer and its own results.\n\n**Why are respondent rewards turned off on my copy?**\nRewards pay out real money, so Koji switches them off on every copy to stop accidental payments. The amount is kept. Turn rewards back on in the study's settings when you're ready.\n\n**Can I duplicate a study someone shared with me?**\nYes. If you can view a study, you can duplicate it into the workspace you're working in. You'll be the creator of the copy.\n\n**Does duplicating use credits?**\nNo. Creating the copy is free. Credits are only used when participants complete quality interviews on the new study.\n\n## Related Resources\n\n- [Creating Your First Study](/docs/creating-your-first-study)\n- [Structured Questions in AI Interviews](/docs/structured-questions-guide)\n- [Understanding the Research Brief](/docs/understanding-the-research-brief)\n- [Previewing Your Interview Before You Share It](/docs/previewing-your-interview)\n- [Research Team Collaboration: Workspaces, Roles and Who Can See What](/docs/research-workspace-roles-permissions)\n- [Changing a Study While It Is Running](/docs/changing-a-study-mid-field)\n","category":"Research Operations","lastModified":"2026-10-11T04:15:29.795143+00:00","metaTitle":"Duplicate a Study: Rerun Research in One Click | Koji Docs","metaDescription":"Duplicate a study in Koji from its card menu.
