Checklist
Likert scale statement checklist

Six checks for writing Likert scale statements that give usable data: make one specific claim, split double-barreled items, balance positive and negative wording, use 5 or 7 points, keep the scale consistent and label every point. It is for researchers and product teams writing rating questions for surveys or interviews. Koji can follow up on each rating with a question about the reason behind it.

What's in this checklist
- State one specific, testable claim, not a vague feeling
- Split double-barreled statements into two items
- Mix positively and negatively worded statements
- Use an odd number of points, 5 or 7, so there is a neutral midpoint
- Keep the same scale type throughout a section
- Label every point, not only the two ends
