Process
Photovoice cycle for course evaluation
Six steps from a broad prompt to a cohort-wide check

A six-step photovoice cycle for evaluating a module or programme. Students photograph what helped or hindered their learning, discuss the images in small groups and sort them into themes, then staff test those themes with the whole cohort. Quality leads and educational developers can use it as a discovery step before revising a questionnaire. Koji can run the cohort-wide follow-up as AI interviews that show the consented photos.
What's in this process
- Set one broad prompt: Ask what helped or got in the way of learning. Skip sub-questions.
- Brief on consent and data: No identifiable people without permission. Explain storage, showing and deletion.
- Two weeks with a camera: Three to five phone photos each, with a sentence on why each matters.
- Talk through the images: Groups of six to eight. Each student explains one or two photos.
- Students sort the themes: The group groups images and captions into themes before staff analyse them.
- Show the committee, ask everyone: Present themes to the programme team, then test each one with the whole cohort.
