Reward, donation or nothing? Choosing an incentive

Flowchart for deciding whether to offer a research participant a reward, a donation or nothing, depending on their employer's rules
Settle this before the invitation goes out, so the offer you make is one they can accept

A short decision path for anyone inviting customers, civil servants or regulated staff to a research interview. It checks whether the employer limits gifts, whether a personal reward is allowed, and lands on offering a choice of reward or donation, stated in the invitation and paid after the interview. Koji lets participants claim the thank-you as a gift card, prepaid card or charity donation.

What's in this flowchart

Start: You want to thank a participant

  1. Does their employer limit gifts?
    • No: go to 2.
    • Yes: Ask what they may accept. Check before you invite, not after. Then go to 2.
  2. Can they accept a personal reward?
    • Yes: go to 3.
    • No: Offer a donation or nothing. A donation only if their rules allow it. Then go to 4.
  3. Let them choose how to receive it. A gift card, a prepaid card or a donation.
  4. Say it in the invitation. Name the amount and the options up front.
  5. Finish: Pay after the interview. Approve it, then send the claim link.
