Process

From customer list to interviews in five steps

How a founder interviews existing customers without scheduling calls

Process showing five steps from a customer list to a decision: pick one cohort, send personal links, chase once or twice, read by segment, then decide.
The whole loop fits into about two weeks.

Five steps a founder can follow to turn a customer list into interviews without booking calls. Start with one cohort of fifty to eighty people, send each a personal interview link, chase non-responders once or twice, read the answers by segment and decide what to build. It works with any tool that gives each person a unique link.

What's in this process

  1. Pick one cohort: Recent signups, power users or quiet accounts. Fifty to eighty people.
  2. Send personal links: One private interview link per person, merged into a short, honest email.
  3. Chase once or twice: A reminder after two or three days, another a week after the first.
  4. Read by segment: Group by the first answer, then look for the job and count themes.
  5. Decide: Build for the group that would miss you. Rewrite your message around their job.
