Key informant interview protocol in five steps

A five-step protocol for B2B research where one person reports on their company: name the unit, sort questions by how reliable one informant can be, recruit a senior informant and one outside the champion's line, screen competence per topic, and report agreement. Koji asks every informant the same structured questions, so agreement comes out as a number.

What's in this process
- Name the unit: Before fielding, mark each question as about the person, team, department or company. Split questions that cross units.
- Sort questions by reliability class: Objective, present-tense, event-anchored questions can survive one informant. The rest need more.
- Recruit a senior informant per account: Plus at least one person outside the champion's reporting line.
- Screen for competence in the interview: Per topic, with scale questions, not once at recruitment.
- Report agreement alongside themes: Every company-level claim says how many informants supported it and whether any disagreed.
