Redesign before-and-after study timeline

Six-step timeline for a redesign before-and-after study, from choosing the measure six weeks before launch to sharing the comparison eight weeks after.
Start six weeks out. The baseline is the step most teams skip.

A six-step schedule for measuring whether a redesign worked, counted back from launch day: choose the measure, run a baseline with active users, share the low scores, launch and wait, re-measure the same people four to eight weeks later, then compare. Written for UX researchers running the study alone or with a designer. Koji runs both rounds as AI-moderated interviews with the score and the reasons together.

What's in this process

  1. Six weeks before: choose the measure: Pick the redesigned area, the core task, the score and what counts as a win.
  2. Five weeks before: run the baseline: Interview active users of that area. Close it before any beta or announcement.
  3. Four weeks before: share the low scores: Send the reasons behind the low scores to design while some are still fixable.
  4. Launch, then wait: Don't interview in the first two weeks. You'd be measuring surprise.
  5. Four to eight weeks after: round 2: Same people, same questions, same mode.
  6. Compare and send the readout: Compare scores per person, read what moved and share it with the team.
