Checklist

How to run Start, Stop, Continue feedback well

A mid-term check-in that gives reasons, not just a list

Checklist for running Start, Stop, Continue course feedback: timing, length, reasons, reporting back to students and reading across modules.
The consultation research suggests most of the gain comes from what happens after the form.

A six-point checklist for lecturers and quality teams running Start, Stop, Continue feedback in the middle of a module. It covers timing, keeping the form short, asking for a reason with each answer, reporting back to students and reading answers across modules. Use it when planning a mid-term check-in. Koji can run the same three prompts as a short interview that asks students why.

What's in this checklist

  • Run it in week 4 to 6 of a 12-week module, so there is time to act
  • Keep it to three prompts plus one optional open question
  • Ask for one reason per answer: Stop ... because ...
  • Tell the class what you will change, keep and cannot change, and why
  • Read answers across modules to spot programme-level problems
  • Keep an open final question for issues the three prompts miss
