Framework
What goes with achievement in higher education

A framework of the four features of university teaching that Schneider and Preckel (2017) found most closely tied to student achievement, drawn from 38 meta-analyses and almost 2 million students. Quality officers and programme teams can use it to check whether a course evaluation asks about interaction, clarity, relevance and challenge. Koji for Education lets teams add these questions to a conversational course evaluation and follow up on the answers.
What's in this framework
- Social interaction in courses: Students discussing and working with each other. Closely tied to achievement.
- Clear presentation: Information explained clearly and in a well organised way.
- Relating material to students: Content connected to the students themselves.
- Conceptually demanding tasks: Work that makes students think hard about the ideas.
