Marvin (HeyMarvin) has four plans: Free, Starter, Pro and Enterprise. Only the Free plan has a public price: it costs nothing, needs no credit card and includes 5 file uploads a month plus its AI Moderated Interviewer. Starter, Pro and Enterprise are quote-only. Review sites last listed Marvin's paid tiers at about $3,000 a year (Essentials) and $6,000 a year (Standard), each with a five-user minimum, roughly $50 and $100 per user per month. Treat those figures as a floor, not a quote.
Below is what each plan includes, what the historical numbers tell you about a real quote, how Marvin's AI interviews are counted, and when an interview-first tool with public pricing is the better fit.

What third parties report
Before Marvin moved to quote-only pricing, review sites listed:
- Essentials: from $3,000 a year for 5 users (TrustRadius)
- Standard: from $6,000 a year for 5 users, with a five-user minimum (G2, TrustRadius)
- Enterprise: custom
Those plan names no longer match the pricing page, so use them only to anchor your budget. A five-person team should expect to start in the low thousands of dollars a year, and more for enterprise security, more seats or heavy interview volume. Competitor Looppanel also says Marvin does not offer month-to-month billing, so plan for an annual contract.
How Marvin counts AI interviews
Marvin's help center says Free users can run up to 5 AI interviews, while paid customers currently get unlimited AI interviews, and that the AI interviewer is open to all plans "for a limited period". Its homepage also offers 75 free interviews when you request a demo. Both look like launch offers, so ask how AI interviews will be priced at renewal before you build a research program on them.
What Marvin does well
Marvin started as a research repository and analysis tool and has grown into a broader platform. Its strengths:
- One home for qualitative data. You can invite Marvin to Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet calls, or upload audio, video, Word, Google Docs, spreadsheets, slides, PDFs and text files.
- AI analysis and search. Automatic transcription, AI tagging and themes, and Ask AI search across past research. In January 2026 Marvin launched agentic Ask AI, a multi-agent search over your research.
- AI-moderated interviews in more than 40 languages, and since September 2026, Live Intercept, a voice AI interviewer embedded in a website or product.
- Security. Marvin lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR compliance, with US and EU data centers.
Reviewers are positive: Marvin holds 4.8 out of 5 from about 133 reviews on G2. The common complaints are that the AI sometimes misreads a question or makes up an answer, transcription and translation are uneven in some languages, there is a learning curve across many tabs, quantitative and survey analysis is limited, and the price feels high next to alternatives.
Why a repository is worth paying for, and when it is not
A repository earns its price when research gets used. Marvin's own State of Modern Research 2026 survey (vendor research, 309 respondents) found 94% of leaders say research should drive decisions, but only 27% cite it in nearly every major decision. If your team already has years of recordings, notes and survey files scattered across drives, a searchable home for them is valuable.
AI is now part of most research workflows, which is why every tool in this category leans on it. In User Interviews' State of User Research 2025, 80% of researchers said they use AI, up 24 points in a year. Maze's Future of User Research 2025 put the share of product professionals using AI tools at 58%, up from 44% the year before, and its 2026 report found 69% use AI in at least some projects.
But a repository only helps once there is research to store. If your problem is that you are not hearing from enough customers in the first place, you are paying for shelves before you have anything to put on them.

Who Marvin is right for
Marvin fits best when:
Photo by Hugo Rocha on Unsplash
- You run a research team with a backlog of recordings and documents and want them searchable in one place.
- Several teams need to search past research, and the repository is the main thing you are buying.
- You need HIPAA compliance or EU data hosting and are ready for an annual, sales-led contract.
- You want AI interviews as one part of a broader research operation.
It fits less well if you are a founder, PM or small team who mainly needs to run interviews now, if you want to see the price before talking to sales, or if you need month-to-month billing.
Marvin vs Koji
Koji is built the other way round: interviews first. You describe what you want to learn, Koji drafts a research brief with questions, and you share a link. Participants talk to Koji's AI interviewer by voice or text, in 28 languages, and it asks follow-up questions based on each answer. You can preview the interview yourself before anyone else sees it.

Every interview gets a quality score from 1 to 5. Only interviews scoring 3 or more use credits or go into the report (how the quality gate works), so you never pay for someone who clicked through. Koji then builds the report: themes, findings backed by quotes you can click through to, personas and a summary, updated as new interviews arrive (generating research reports).
You can reach your own customers with a shared link or personalized invite links, screen them with screening questions, or recruit from Koji's research panel on paid plans (panel recruitment). On the Interviews and Enterprise plans you can also query studies from Claude and other AI assistants through Koji's MCP connector.

How to decide

Choose Marvin if your biggest gap is organizing research you already have, across many teams and file types, and you are buying an annual platform. Choose Koji if your biggest gap is talking to enough customers, quickly, at a price you can see today. Many teams start with interviews and add a repository later, once there is a steady flow of research worth storing.
