The four signals a beta program delivers

Framework showing the four signals a beta program should deliver: defect, usability, comprehension and retention.
Most beta platforms cover the first signal and part of the second

A beta program can deliver four kinds of signal: defects (crashes and broken flows), usability (friction and drop-off), comprehension (whether the value proposition lands) and retention (whether testers would keep using the product). Most beta tools cover only the first one and part of the second. Use it to check which signals your beta program is missing.

What's in this framework

  1. Defect signal: Crashes, errors and broken flows. The classic beta job.
  2. Usability signal: Friction points, drop-off and confusion.
  3. Comprehension signal: Does the value prop land? Do users understand what they are using?
  4. Retention signal: Would they keep using it, and why or why not?
