Framework
The six parts of an interview snapshot
A one-page summary for every customer interview
The interview snapshot is a one-page template for summarising a single customer interview, popularised by Teresa Torres in Continuous Discovery Habits. Its six parts are a photo, a memorable quote, quick facts, insights, opportunities and an experience map of the story the participant told. Product teams fill one in straight after each interview and later use the set to build an opportunity solution tree. Koji's per-interview summaries give teams a first draft of most parts.
Where this appears
What's in this framework
- Photo: Helps the team remember a person, not a participant number. Only with consent; otherwise use a stand-in.
- Memorable quote: One line that brings the whole interview back to mind. Strong emotion makes a good one.
- Quick facts: The same context fields every time, such as role, company size and tenure, so you can compare later.
- Insights: Interesting things you learned that are not needs or pain points.
- Opportunities: Needs, pain points and desires in the customer's words. Never solutions.
- Experience map: A quick sketch of the specific story they told, step by step.
