The five types of focus group questions
Krueger and Casey's order for a discussion guide

The five types of focus group questions, in the order a moderator asks them: opening, introductory, transition, key and ending. Use it to build a discussion guide that moves participants from easy small talk to the questions that matter. A 60 to 90 minute session usually needs only a handful of questions in total. Koji can run the same guide as individual AI-moderated interviews.

What's in this framework
- Opening: Quick, factual and answerable by everyone in a sentence. Gets every voice into the room.
- Introductory: Introduces the topic and gets people thinking about their own connection to it.
- Transition: Moves the talk deeper and links the introduction to your key questions.
- Key: The 2 to 5 questions that drive the study. Spend most of the session here.
- Ending: Helps people reflect, confirm their position and say what matters most.
