The HEART framework gives product teams five categories for measuring user experience. It mixes attitudinal signals, what users say, with behavioral ones, what users do. Use it to pick the two or three categories that fit a project, then turn them into numbers with goals, signals and metrics. Koji can collect the Happiness and perceived task success side through structured interview questions.

What's in this framework

  1. Happiness: How users feel: satisfaction, ease and recommendation. Only a survey can show it, logs cannot.
  2. Engagement: How deeply active users use the product in a session or a week.
  3. Adoption: New users, or new users of one feature, in a set period.
  4. Retention: How many users come back after days, weeks or months.
  5. Task Success: Whether users finish what they came to do: completion, errors and time.
