The 100-day customer baseline timeline

From close to the day-180 rerun, for a PE operating partner

Process showing the 100-day customer baseline timeline for a PE portfolio company, from day 1 to the day-180 rerun.
Count from close, and finish the readout by day 60.

A seven-step timeline for interviewing a new portfolio company's customers after closing. It runs from naming the decisions in week one to a board readout by day 60, with a rerun at day 180 and before exit. Koji compiled it from the 100-day customer baseline playbook for operating partners.

What's in this process

  1. Days 1 to 7: name the decisions: Pick three decisions the baseline informs. Pull the customer list with revenue, tenure and churn.
  2. Days 8 to 14: build and pilot: Write the guide, set guardrails, preview it and run a pilot of 5 customers.
  3. Days 15 to 21: invite: CEO signs the invitation. Send two waves a week apart, with one reminder each.
  4. Days 22 to 45: fieldwork: Watch the mix against quota and top up thin segments with personal follow-ups.
  5. Days 46 to 52: read and write: Check the evidence behind each finding and write the one-page readout.
  6. Days 53 to 60: readout: Board and management readout. Lock the 100-day plan changes it supports.
  7. Day 180 and pre-exit: rerun: Run the same guide again and compare with the baseline.
