Checklist
Five ways to reduce focus group bias

A five-point checklist for running a focus group with less bias. It covers getting private views on paper before the discussion, moderating neutrally, keeping groups small and alike, running more than one session and checking findings against interviews and surveys. Keep it next to your session plan. When the group effect itself is the problem, private one-on-one interviews, such as the AI-moderated ones Koji runs, avoid it.

What's in this checklist
- Have each person write down their view privately before any discussion
- Use a neutral moderator who draws out quiet people and stops one voice taking over
- Keep groups small and similar, so people feel safe to speak
- Run several sessions, because one group of eight is an anecdote
- Check what you heard against one-on-one interviews and surveys
