Checklist
Is student participation in your internal QA real?

A checklist for quality assurance leads, programme directors and student unions who want to test whether students take part in internal quality assurance or only fill in surveys. It draws on the 2024 Bologna monitoring, where the European Students' Union found student participation in internal QA still often tokenistic, and on ESG Standard 1.9 on reporting back. Go through it with student members of a programme committee. Koji helps with the evidence side, giving reps and committees cohort-wide student explanations grouped into themes.
What's in this checklist
- Students sit on the committee that reviews course evaluation results
- Students help decide which questions the evaluation asks
- Students can explain a rating in their own words
- Reps get cohort-wide evidence before committee meetings
- Student members are briefed and take part in decisions, not just attend
- Students see the results for their own course
- Students hear what changed, and why some requests were turned down
