Framework
Three dimensions of teacher self-disclosure

A framework card for the three dimensions of teacher self-disclosure set out by Cayanus and Martin (2008): how often an instructor discloses, how relevant the material is to the course, and whether it is positive or negative. Useful for teaching development staff and evaluation committees reading warmth and rapport items. Related research links disclosure that students see as honest and positive to more favourable student evaluations.
What's in this framework
- Amount: How often an instructor shares personal information in class.
- Relevance: How well the shared material connects to course content.
- Negativity: Whether what is shared is positive or negative in tone.
