Five calls, one rewrite, one five-second test
A six-step process for founders who want a homepage headline that matches how their best users already describe the product. It starts with the five users who would miss you most, turns their repeated phrases into a new first screen and checks it on strangers with a five-second test before it goes live. Plan about a week of elapsed time and a few hours of your own.

- Pick your five best users: The people who use it most or would miss it most. Not friends, not free-trial tourists.
- Run short calls: Ten to fifteen minutes each. Ask about the last month, not about your website.
- Pull out the repeated phrases: Note the job, the before, the comparison and the words they never used.
- Write the new first screen: Headline in their phrasing, a subhead for who it is for, one line of proof.
- Test it on strangers: About 20 people who fit your customer, one version each, five seconds.
- Decide and track: Ship, tweak the subhead or go back to the transcripts. Watch trial starts for weeks.
