Reference table

Survey sample size by population size

Required responses at 95% confidence and a 5% margin of error

Table of the survey sample size needed at 95% confidence and a 5% margin of error for populations from 100 to 100,000 or more, topping out at 384.
Past about 20,000 people, a bigger population barely needs more responses.

This reference table lists the number of survey responses needed at 95% confidence and a 5% margin of error, for populations from 100 people up to 100,000 or more. Small populations need a finite population correction, which cuts the number sharply. Large ones level off at 384. Use it to size a customer or user survey before you recruit.
