A complete job in Jobs to Be Done has three dimensions. The functional job is the task, the emotional job is how the customer wants to feel, and the social job is how they want to be seen. Use it as a checklist when you write up interview findings, so the notes cover more than features.

  1. Functional job: The practical task being done, like getting from A to B.
  2. Emotional job: How the customer wants to feel: confident, safe, calm.
  3. Social job: How the customer wants other people to see them.
