Checklist
Course evaluation email invitation checklist
Nine steps drawn from experiments on email survey invitations

A nine-step checklist for writing and sending course evaluation invitations by email. It is meant for quality assurance staff and programme directors who run end-of-course surveys. Each step draws on experiments with email invitations, including Kaplowitz and colleagues at Michigan State University. In Koji you can follow it with personal links, a first-name greeting and one reminder sent only to students who have not started.
What's in this checklist
- Name a sender students know, such as the programme director
- Greet each student by first name
- Give an honest time estimate, and keep the evaluation short
- Keep the invitation brief: longer text did not help students
- Put the link after the message, and test the position if you can
- Give each student a personal link
- Remind only students who have not responded
- Give each reminder a new reason to respond
- After closing, compare respondents with the class list
